The International Conference on Official Statistics; Challenges, Opportunities and Future directions

The International Conference on Official Statistics; Challenges, Opportunities and Future directions (ICOS2017) is a joint initiative by the School of Economics and Business of the University of Sarajevo and the Institute for Statistics of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina that aims to bring together academics, practitioners and data users to present their research, share their best practices, and discuss avenues for development of official statistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

This inaugural international scientific gathering will be held in Sarajevo on 30 and 31 March 2017, and will aim to become a biennial event. It will include presentations by prominent international invited speakers, as well as high-quality research findings from applicants selected through rigorous manuscript review by the international Scientific Program Committee. All accepted manuscripts will be published in ICOS2017 Conference Proceedings, which we will aim to register with prominent citation indexes/databases.

You are invited to submit your manuscript for the ICOS2017. Original contributions on topics covered below (this is by no means an exhaustive list) are solicited:

Quality in official statistics (includes sampling, data collection, analysis, interpretation and visualization), methodology development and harmonization, innovation and modernization of official statistics, use of modeling in official statistic, sector-specific statistics and data gaps (e.g., economic, demographic, environmental, health, education statistics), open/linked data, misuse of statistics, statistics for decision-making and development, data analytics, data visualization, data mining, big data, impact evaluation, use of geospatial information in statistics, data confidentiality, and others.

University students from various disciplines that use or intend to use statistical data in their research – by no means limited to mathematics, economics and IT – are invited to submit their work, as we will be presenting the Best Student Awards this year!
